What is CareerONE?
CareerONE provides at risk youth ages 14 – 17 work readiness skills training in a safe, nurturing and learning rich environment. The purpose of the summer program is to give at-risk youth a realistic and positive work readiness training experience and to keep youth from regressing academically during the summer months.
Summer components include: Teamwork, contextual academic enrichment, career exploration, work readiness skills, workplace safety, financial literacy, reflections and journaling, and work projects for community based organizations and agencies. CareerONE has an average completion rate over eight years of 96%.
Financial Literacy Training: Junior Achievement’s Finance Park® was added to CareerONE 2010 with JA Finance Park® certificates awarded to 100 percent of the youth.
Work Readiness Training: CareerONE also features ACT’s National Career Readiness Certificate (ACT® NCRC®) with youth completing a WorkKeys® pre-assessment and skill advancement curriculum with the KeyTrain® on-line learning modules. Employability skills training with a focus on attendance, punctuality and dress code; team work, safety and cooperation; and work quality and work quantity. Youth@Work Talking Safety learning modules, team building at the SCSU Husky Challenge Course, work culture, work projects for community organizations, career exploration and job search readiness.
